A certain someone figured he could just HIDE,

First of all, it's not the Brits who are famous for their pastry - it's the French. Though those cakes do have a very sturdy British air about their frippery. I want a party like that, too. My mother was never one for luscious. And it's fast Sunday, which makes reading this all the worse. The children are beautiful. And can you believe OUR children are in their 30s? Cam will be 31 this year, and Gin - well, she and A are about the same age. A lovely party.
