Serendipity

6 p.m.
Yesterday.
Taken from the dirt road on the back side of Squaw Peak.

Utah has more than it's share of scenic back roads
winding up through the mountain passes.

Many of them, near to home.

7 p.m.
Overlooking my home town,
from the tippy top of Rock Canyon.

7:30 p.m.
As the sun is setting and I turn back to my car,
there's a bit of serendipity when I glance at the back window.

8 p.m.

And MORE as I head down the road and look across the valley.

This evening,
the book group was gathering at my place,
as they always do on the 3rd Thursday of every month.

We hadn't quite started into the book
when a breathless newcomer enticed us all to the front porch.


Yet another round of serendipity!

Sometimes you just have to open up your front door
and LOOK.

Dear Rock Canyon Supporters,

Rock Canyon, continues to be threatened by mining. As leaders of PreserveRockCanyon.com, we have met with key stakeholders in the U.S. Forest Service, Provo City, attorneys, and involved political figures to preserve the crown jewel of our community.

We continue to push for a land swap to satisfy all parties. However, if we lose this option, we must elect strong leadership in the Provo City Council and Mayor's Office where power resides for deciding whether Rock Canyon is ruined by mining or permanently protected.

Rock Canyon must be saved. This is a critical time and action is needed. We urge you to promote, support, and work for the following candidates who are CAPABLE and COMMITTED to take action to PRESERVE ROCK CANYON.

Sustaining Dreams

When I was crazy-busy and rather exhausted during the 80s and 90s, I had this dream of SOME DAY taking a long, luxurious road trip across the North American continent.

I would meet fascinating people and see thrilling vistas.

AND, I'd rest as long as I pleased.

To keep the dream alive, I saved my pennies
until I secured THIS 1977 BEAUTY for next to nothing:

I took it on a trial run to Arizona in 1999.

More than 1000 miles of pulling that trailer with my 3/4-ton truck.

It was a BLAST!
I loved parking it under the saguaros
and listening to the coyotes howl.


Then my 3/4-ton truck got torched
and I had to downsize to a whimpier set a wheels.

"SOME DAY, I'll get a brawny truck again and take that trip."

Occasionally, I'd go and open up the trailer, dreaming my dream.

These shots show the cool interior of MY trailer.


Well, I didn't get around to collecting enough nickels
for another brawny truck.

(Still have the whimpy 1/4-ton Ford.)

And, over the years, the mice discovered my trailer.


And the bugs arrived.


By the time it needed a new roof,
I realized that it was time to say goodbye to my sweet trailer.


Last week, it got cleaned up and SOLD.


The longings of my heart, felt so strongly in the 80s and 90s,
are being met through other means.

Still, my trailer dream
served it's purpose in a REAL WAY,
even without taking me on that long trip across the country.

It SUSTAINED me during challenging times.
